Two men of striking resemblance meet in Africa—one British, one German—each carrying a mysterious past that has driven them into exile. The German, von Rajastein, devises a plot to kill the Englishman Everard Dominy and steal his identity for a German espionage operation. Dominy travels to Britain, where suspicion grows, but he works tirelessly to convince those around him that his changed demeanor stems from his African experiences.
