In the seventeenth century, French nobles and clergy competed for influence and the king's favor. Each rival faction maintained bold cavalry and warriors, igniting conflicts between them. Fierce duels frequently took place on the streets of Paris between the followers of the Duke de Treville and the Cardinal Richelieu's men. The three musketeers—Aramis, Athos, and Porthos—were the bravest and strongest warriors of de Treville.
